December 12, 2011, Arlington, VA—With increased activity in the kitchen and heightened energy use to combat the cold, families are at greater risk of home fires during the winter holiday season. The Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) is encouraging families and communities across the country to take simple precautions to ensure that this celebratory time of year does not result in a fire-related tragedy.
Each year, ESFI launches a holiday safety awareness campaign to encourage families and communities across the country to Make Safety a Tradition of the winter holiday season. ESFI, in partnership with The Home Depot, is educating consumers about the safety concerns associated with the winter holiday season. “Many of these simple precautions seem like common sense, but are often overlooked due to the hectic nature of the holiday season,” said ESFI President Brett Brenner. “In addition to taking preventative measures like testing smoke alarms, it is critical that families create and practice their fire escape plan to minimize tragedy if a fire does occur.”
Visit ESFI’s holiday safety website, www.holidaysafety.org, throughout the holiday season for all of the safety tips and tools you need to Make Safety a Tradition for your family. The Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) is dedicated exclusively to promoting electrical safety. ESFI proudly sponsors National Electrical Safety Month each May, and engages in public education campaigns throughout the year to prevent electrical fires, injuries, and fatalities in the home and the workplace.
