Always Look Up, Always

Contact with overhead power lines is the leading cause of electrical fatalities. Follow these tips to keep safe from overhead power line contact.

Overhead Power Line Contact Tips

  • Be aware of all power lines around your home
  • Know the electrical service entrance to your home; they can be dangerous if contacted
  • Keep yourself and any tools at least 10 feet away from any power lines
  • Never touch anything in contact with a power line. If work needs to be done around a power line, contact your local electric company first
  • Carry ladders and any other long tool or equipment horizontally to avoid accidental contact with electricity
  • Always assume all downed power lines are live. Stay at least 35 feet – or at least three car lengths – away from any downed line and call 911
