National Electrical Safety Month 2026

NRTL Certification & Avoiding Counterfeits, Data Center Safety, Qualified Workers & Industry Recruitment, EV Charging Safety

What is National Electrical Safety Month?

The Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) is a non-profit organization dedicated exclusively to promoting electrical safety at home and in the workplace. To commemorate National Electrical Safety Month (NESM) each May, ESFI spearheads an annual campaign to educate key audiences about the steps that can be taken to reduce the number of electrically related fires, fatalities, injuries, and property loss.

2026 Campaign Overview

ESFI is excited to announce that its National Electrical Safety Month 2026 campaign will focus on:

  • NRTL certification and avoiding counterfeits
    • When purchasing devices that use electricity or lithium-ion batteries, it is crucial to check that they are certified by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory.
  • EV installation and charging safety
    • Avoid using charging equipment that isn’t manufacturer-approved for your EV. When installing new equipment, make sure to hire a qualified electrician.
  • Data center safety
    • Data centers are safe when they use certified products that are installed by qualified workers.
  • Qualified workers
    • It is more important than ever that qualified workers are equipped with the knowledge and tools they need to build out important electrical infrastructure, including data centers, energy storage systems, and EV chargers. Companies have a responsibility to hire workers who are prepared for the work they are doing. Workers need to be aware of “when to say when,” and that it’s alright to stop work if conditions are unsafe or if they are unequipped for a job.
  • Industry recruitment
    • The electrical industry is one of the fastest-growing in the U.S., and there are opportunities for individuals to join it in various roles, including manufacturing, engineering, designing, installers, and safety professionals.
