January 25, 2012, Arlington, VA – During the 2012 State of the Union Address, President Barack Obama announced the creation of a Trade Enforcement Unit that will investigate trading practices in China and other foreign countries and ramp up efforts to intercept counterfeit goods from entering the United States.
“Counterfeit products are not only a major threat to our economy, some, like counterfeit electrical devices can also be deadly,” said Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) President Brett Brenner. “Yet, less than one third of Americans even realize that electrical products are counterfeited. We are pleased that this issue is now on the forefront of our Nation’s agenda.”
ESFI, in cooperation with the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA), pioneered Counterfeits Can Kill, a national electrical counterfeit awareness program to help educate the public about the dangers of counterfeit electrical products.
A variety of safety awareness resources related to electrical product counterfeiting can be found on the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) website at www.electrical-safety.org.
The Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) is dedicated exclusively to promoting electrical safety in the home, school, and workplace. ESFI proudly sponsors National Electrical Safety Month each May and engages in public education campaigns throughout the year to prevent electrical fires, injuries and fatalities.
