Arlington, VA— The Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) has named Lorraine Carli as the 2013 recipient of the Foundation’s Outstanding Service Award in Honor of Harold Leviton. The award was presented to Ms. Carli during the ESFI Board of Directors Dinner in West Palm Beach, Florida on November 7, 2013.
The Outstanding Service Award was formally established in 2008 as a tribute to Harold Leviton’s enduring legacy and dedication to improving electrical safety. The award honors a member of ESFI’s Board of Directors who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in expanding the Foundation’s interests through steadfast involvement and effective leadership.
As the Vice President of Outreach and Advocacy for the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Ms. Carli oversees all of the organization’s media, public affairs, public education and wildland fire activities; working closely with staff on a variety of media and advocacy issues in all areas of fire and life safety. Since her appointment to ESFI’s Board of Directors in 2009, Ms. Carli has played a vital role in helping ESFI increase its visibility through traditional and social media.
“NFPA is an industry leader through its creation of first-rate public safety resources and its ability to disseminate its safety messages through mass and social media,” said ESFI president Brett Brenner. “Lorraine has led by example with the unparalleled success of NFPA’s annual Fire Prevention Week campaign, which has helped us model our platform campaigns for National Electrical Safety Month and the holiday season with great success.”
“As the developer and publisher of the National Electrical Code, electrical safety is central to NFPA’s mission of reducing the prevalence of fire and other life-threatening hazards,” said Carli. “Understanding the fundamentals of electrical safety helps prevent fires. NFPA’s strong working relationship with ESFI allows us to reinforce our safety messages and reach new audiences.”
