The Consumer Product Safety Commission and BRK Brands Inc., a subsidiary of First Alert Inc. of Illinois is recalling approximately 145,000 smoke detectors sold nationwide between June 2005 and March 2006. The alarms rapidly drain battery power, and may not detect smoke in the event of a fire or the presence of carbon monoxide. For details, visit www.recalls.gov

Electrical Safety and Counterfeiting
Counterfeit electrical products can pose significant safety hazards and left undetected, can cause deaths, injuries and substantial property loss in the home and the workplace. NEMA, CSA and UL are among the organizations working to develop strategies to remove such products from the marketplace and increase awareness of the safey issues posed by counterfeit electrical products.
