November 2, 2011, Arlington, VA - The Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) has named Richard “Rich” Widdowson as the 2011 recipient of the Foundation’s annual Outstanding Service Award in Honor of Harold Leviton. The award was presented to Mr. Widdowson during a recent Workplace Safety Committee meeting held in Philadelphia, PA. The Outstanding Service Award was formally established in 2008 as a tribute to Harold Leviton’s impressive legacy and dedication to improving electrical safety. Each year, the award honors an individual who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in expanding the Foundation’s interests through steadfast involvement and effective leadership. “Mr. Widdowson exemplifies Harold Leviton’s indelible legacy through his tireless commitment to electrical safety and his ability to inspire others as a leader in his field,” said ESFI president Brett Brenner. “As the Chair of the Workplace Safety Committee, Mr. Widdowson oversaw the development of many important ESFI safety programs, including the groundbreaking Never Assume Electrical Safety Series that reinforces important electrical safety principles in the workplace.” For the last 24 years, Mr. Widdowson has devoted himself to the field of safety. He has made significant contributions in support of ESFI’s mission as a member of the Workplace Safety Committee since joining in 2003, and has served as Committee Chairman from 2004 to the present. Mr. Widdowson has worked for Schneider Electric, an industry safety leader, for 38 years. In his current position as Vice President, Safety, Environment and Real Estate for North America, Mr. Widdowson is the company’s global lead for safety. He is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM). He holds memberships in the National Safety Council, American Society of Safety Engineers, National Fire Protection Association, Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers, and National Association of Environmental Managers. “We thank Mr. Widdowson for his years of hard work and service that has been instrumental towards the growth of our organization,” noted Brenner.
