FROM THE PRESIDENT

 

Welcome to the Web site of the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI). ESFI's goal is to reduce electrically related deaths and injuries through public education that keeps electrical safety at the forefront in people's minds, and to give the general public, school children and the workforce tips and tools to prevent deadly electrical accidents.

 

We are not a membership organization. We do not lobby or write standards.

 

Why is ESFI necessary? Because people are being injured or killed in preventable electrical accidents. As technology advances in quantum leaps, so, too, does our dependence on electricity. Unfortunately, as safety is better engineered into electrical products, our awareness of sound electrical safety practices decreases; we grow comfortable in the belief that manufacturers have made their products failsafe, and we take our safety for granted. We all use electricity every day for computers, lights and appliances and, although safe when used appropriately, when misused, electricity remains uniquely unforgiving—the smallest mistake can be fatal.

I hope that you find the material on our Web site educational and useful. More to the point, I hope that you use it to create a more electrically safe environment at home, school and at work. Please feel free to communicate with us by phone, fax, mail and e-mail. Ask questions, raise issues, and relate stories of both successes and failures. Most of all, let us know how ESFI can be of better help.
